Zander is similar two Langstroth and the most commonly used type in (South-)Germany.
The bottom board is covered with a steel mesh and open during most of the year (except for varroa treatments).
The location at 900m elevation at the Alps is rather cool, with long winter and 4-5 months (Oct - Feb) without any brood in the hives.
Typically, 1-2 honey harvests can be expected: Dandelion in early spring (Mid April - Mid May) and honey dew every 1-3 years (from spruce and fir tree, June - July, sometimes September).
